Regency Inspired Wedding Dress

So my near and dear friend Lisa reached out to me last year, telling me the happy news! Yay! Getting married! Would I make her dress??   OF COURSE!!! Then…a second call came , with even MORE joyful news….there was a baby on the way! So, the planning and designing had to abruptly change , because we’d be planning for a 7 month pregnancy body:) A bit of a challenge, but since the bride had already chosen an empire waist Regency inspired gown,  we were all set. Finished Dress; shown…

Technology ate my blog posts!

I was working on set a lot this week; and had written several blog posts to upload later on my Ipad. Nothing is more annoying than hitting “Save” and then…..it disappears. (I realized later on why, which isn’t important now. But…lesson learned!) So this week, no quilting….but Lots and LOTS of costuming for some darling girls I happen to know. Renaissance-themed little dresses and some skirts & wee bags for them. I get to visit them next week when I’m off to sunny southern Florida for a little winter break.…

FMQ…..huh?

I admit it.  I am addicted to Free Motion Quilting. This is one of my FAVOURITE finishes for 2014. This fabric made me So happy. A heavy wool blanket for batting and FMQ all over. This is my current snuggle up on the couch quilt. Blog Post Here. Or…  “FMQ”, for short. In my humble opinion, I just like the look and texture you get from the finished quilt with a loopy-swirly FMQ pattern. This was my most ambitious project so far. Applique, stars, math, and lots and lots of…

2015 Skillbuilding – January’s Goal – To get Organized

**Warning. Terrible, terrible photos are at the bottom of this post.  They may be disturbing to some readers!!!** I will admit it. I make messes when I work. And…I *really* need to get into the habit of cleaning as I go. That is, putting things back where I got them when I use them. Not leaving things out, in piles. Everywhere. Is this anyone else or is it just me?  What are your surefire ways to stay organized? So this is January’s Skill to build, you may or may not …

Knitted Infinity Scarves

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again….infinity scarves are a HOT item right now.  In fact I’m surprised it took us all so long to catch on; living through a Canadian winter you practically wrap a sleeping bag around your head to keep warm…(not really) but a circular scarf with no end that you wrap and wrap…with no ends flapping around…genius!! I have an Etsy Shop WonderbunnieDesigns, and I have had a heck of a time keeping it stocked with scarves. They are all knitted by me, with…

Strippin’ in Black and White….Part Deux

It started Saturday….. As I stared into my stash of fabric….. thinking….masculine….masculine…..   Progressed into new slabs of strip fabrics…… And then…. Voila!!  Now yes the photo is pretty wonky; the cat tore across the dang thing *just* as I got to the top of the stairs to take the photo. So it’s straight, lol I swear. I will be finishing this up today and updating the photos as I go!

Which comes first – fabric or pattern?

I have a question to pose to all the quilters out there…. what   comes first for you? Do you find gorgeous fabrics INSPIRE you to create and then you grab the pattern? Or do intricate design patterns INSPIRE you to pull fabrics and then you create? I found this fabric and fell in love. I didn’t want to cut it at first. For me, I think that it’s the fabric that inspires the pattern. But wait…sometimes when I peruse blogs online I see patterns that just yell at me to…

Outlander Knits – Easy Tutorial!

I love to read. One series I have loved loved LOVED for years is Diana Gabaldon’s “Outlander” series.  When I was a kid, I spent my summers at the library, scouring the aisles for new stories and characters to take me away…. and as an adult I *still* love to read; however when I’m sewing, it’s easier to listen to audiobooks. And one series I have loved loved LOVED for years is Diana Gabaldon’s “Outlander” series. Ahhh Scotsmen. Kilts. Bodice Ripping. Time Travel. Romance. Intrigue. History. A great mix. And now,…
