The Year of Not Buying Fabric

You guys.Omg. You guys. It’s three quarters  through July and I HAVEN’T BOUGHT ANY NEW FABRIC. (yet) No really. I’ve made a sort of deal with myself that I need to clean up and get through my stash this year. It’s…too much. When I’m moving bins and bins of fabrics around (but I do know exactly what’s in each bin, y’all… I really do) and still having to go buy more fabric….I think it’s gone past the Stash phase and I’m teetering dangerously close to Hoarder status. So.I decided last year…

Strippin’ in Black and White

Nope…it’s not what you think. Or…maybe it is! It was recently brought to my attention that my Etsy shop is overloaded with (ahem) ‘girly stuff’.  Vintage sheet Pink Rail fence I realized….. that’s very true.  There’s a lot of pinks and pastels and shall we say, more feminine quilts and things on there. Not so much for in the Manly Men department. So I am working on that discrepancy this week! Here’s a sneak peek: Strip Quilts come together quickly! I cut some of my fav black and white fabrics…

Which comes first – fabric or pattern?

I have a question to pose to all the quilters out there…. what   comes first for you? Do you find gorgeous fabrics INSPIRE you to create and then you grab the pattern? Or do intricate design patterns INSPIRE you to pull fabrics and then you create? I found this fabric and fell in love. I didn’t want to cut it at first. For me, I think that it’s the fabric that inspires the pattern. But wait…sometimes when I peruse blogs online I see patterns that just yell at me to…

Fabric and Fabric and Fabric

I was at my favourite LQS on Monday. And as I perused the aisles, touching this, oohing at that… I got to wonderings….. What is it about us quilters…? we see GORGEOUS prints….  we coo and sigh, and pet them, and (or, is that just me??)  keep them neatly, tidily folded sitting quietly on our shelf. Until… We catch that creative bug…the gleam in our eye….standing tall in the doorway of our creative space…rotary cutter in hand…. And we get the primal urge to rip and tear and shred….(sorry, just me??)…

Spring (!!!) Cleaning

It started snowing overnight….yesterday it was plus 8!!   Today…. cold and it’s snowed alllllll day. So, THIS happened outside. It didn’t stop until oh, 7pm. SO, since I was snowed in, I decided to finally, FINALLY attack my Sewing Room of Doom. Since I moved in back in May, I haven’t really had time to git in here and go thru stuff. Like, the filing cabinet. And um, bins and bins of fabric. I’m so embarrassed by how much of an explosion I created I couldn’t even post photos.…

I have been working on knitting some of those ‘infinity’ scarves for Christmas gifts; I’ve been using the Lion Brand Homespun Thick & Quick so I can get 4 or 5 finished before Christmas.I’m…

Update & Happy Mardi Gras!!!!

Lots going on here at The Quilt Cave. Christmas was lovely, gifts exchanged and everyone enjoyed the Big Turkey Dinner. (That I nearly dropped on the floor, but that’s another story a la Mr. Bean). I haven’t had much time for sewing, we are in the process of selling the house and so, must keep everything contained and neat and orderly. *Snort* I do have a few WIPS (of course) and plenty of UFOS…. A new favourite full sized WIP ! I did finish a whole bunch of Bloomers however…

Sooo tired!

What a fun day! The HBBA Show at the Timken Centre in St.Thomas was a happy day. I finished and displayed lots and lots of quilts, and met lots and lots of wonderful folks today! (And, re-met several people I hadn’t seen in YEARS!) All in all, a great day. But I’m exhausted, and soon off to bed. Today I heard a lot of people comment on how beautiful the quilts are, and how they wish they could find the time to quilt. I would smile and reply, Find the…
